BREAKFAST FOR KIDS
Our Breakfast for Kids program started in 2012 and is now moving into its 10th year. The program is a joint project between the Coldwater/Eady United Church, the Coldwater Public School and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where we prepare the breakfasts.
We have approximately 15 dedicated volunteers. Teams of 3 are assigned one of 5 mornings each week throughout the school year. Volunteers get up early to get to the church for preparation at 7:30 A.M. We are usually done between 8:30 and 9:00 A.M.
Each morning we prepare a fruit, a dairy product and trail mix or other carbohydrate. When we can go to the school, we can offer a variety of choice. At this time we are bagging one piece of each. During this last two years we have made anywhere from 50 to 150 bags. We are getting good at assembly line work.
The program costs between $800 to $1200 a month. We had help during COVID from the Federal Emergency Community Support Fund, but traditionally community organizations and businesses support the program. Donors are given a charitable receipt from the Coldwater United Church.
There is always room for an extra volunteer. For more information, please contact
Cate at beginnings4me@gmail.com or call at 705-984-7668.
COLDWATER LIONS CLUB
The Coldwater Lions Club usually meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Coldwater church hall. If you would like to join or need more information, contact us through info@coldwaterlions.com.
FLOWERS & PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
Wesley United Church, Eady and its UCW provide flower and prayer shawl delivery. There is a small, dedicated group of ladies who meet at Eady United to make the shawls. They would love to have more members. The shawls are given to folks in the community and surrounding area who are in need of comfort and prayer due to illness, bereavement, baptisms and other life events.
Meetings are held at the Eady Church in the Wesley Room on the last Wednesday of each month from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM (except in July and August). Call 705-686-7787 to learn more.
COLDWATER/EADY OUTREACH
Members and Friends of Coldwater/Eady United Churches support and assist families within our local community through fundraisers such as dinners and pie sales. For more information, or if you'd like to purchase a pie, contact our church office through ceucpc@amtelecom.net or 705-686-7787.
Advent Projects in the past have included: Purchasing toys/games for children who would be hospitalized over Christmas on the pediatrics ward at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Orillia; supporting Women's Shelters in Orillia and Midland; supporting a local school with winter wear, the Mariposa Hospice House in Orillia and the Huronia Hospice in Midland.
We support youth wishing to attend the United Church of Canada Camp Simpresca and Camp Big Canoe.
At Wesley United Church, Eady, we have the Dr. Des Little Education Fund which gives a donation of money each year to support students attending college or university.
Our ongoing outreach to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada is used for local and natural disasters.
