Minister's Message for September
Greetings
Well, here we are in September again. It isn't autumn yet, but our summer is spent. Our long warm days are being packed away as we start looking toward the waiting fall schedule.
Too, it will not be long until the arrival of the crisp and cool air. Days become shorter and nights longer as the Earth's tilt reduces direct sunlight. Indeed, it will not be long before morning features both frost and a refreshing chill.
We also await and welcome the turning of the leaves before they fall. In fact, this is how our beloved Autumn received the name "Fall". Birds and insects will migrate to warmer regions while animals like squirrels and bears prepare for winter by gathering food and reducing activity. And a lot of humans will do the same. Be careful in your selection of caves.
At this time our attitude can change from high-energy outdoor freedom to a more grounded, reflective and cozy awareness of people and life and friends and family. Of course, there is also the settling into a higher-paced routine requiring meetings, tasks and, hopefully, new ideas and challenges.
But, through the change, may we always remember that the words "human" (people) and "humus" (dirt) are both derived from the same word along with the words humble and humility (humilitas). I am not saying here that we are all just dirt. But it is important to stay grounded.
My favourite song title is "Through all the Changing Scenes of Life". It seems to have something to do with every day of our lives. And may we always remember that we do not experience this change and transformation alone. We are never without our faith in both God and one another.
And with this presence and constant support of one another may we remain grounded in our roots of faith, hope and love.
